Cam 8000-D not working with Ubuntu on RIot Board

I am using Ubuntu 11.04 with RIoT board but it is not taking images with cam 8000-D. It takes proper videos with the same camera but takes very dark image. I have attached a photo of mobile phone's flash taken by the cam 8000-D camera. It is totally black. It only shows the flash which is actually very bright and blackens out everything else.

can you share some pictures taken in  daylight,  just to make sure the camera captures images properly..

Yes. It only records videos properly. It captures Images but only bright sources are visible. Here is the Image which is actually flash of a mobile phone.

The above image was captured from UBUNTU flashed with Mfgtools_SVN2487 which had 3.0.35 kernel version. Later I flashed Ubuntu kernel version 3.10.17 with Mfgtools_SVN2777 and then I got proper Image. Here is the other pic

    image

But with 3.10.17 version of kernel, the board is not displaying anything through HDMI. It gets stuck at "Starting Kernel" if HDMI is connected to board. If I switch off the power supply, remove the HDMI cable and then turn the power supply on, the board boots but after reconnecting the display, nothings is visible on screen.

Also while booting if HDMI is connected and I press and go to U-boot prompt, the display works and it shows "IMX freescale" logo on screen.
