The Analog Devices EVAL-ADXL001ZEVAL-ADXL001Z is a simple breakout board that allows quick evaluation of the performance of the ADXL001 accelerometer. The ADXL001ADXL001 is a single-axis, wide-band, analog-output accelerometer. Three measurement ranges are available: +/-70g, +/-250g, and +/-500g. The small size (1" x 1") of the EVAL-ADXL001Z makes it easy to mount the accelerometer to an existing system without the need for additional hardware and with minimal effect on performance of the system and of the accelerometer.

The EVAL-ADXL001EVAL-ADXL001 is specifically designed to mount on to a mechanical shaker and is constructed of an extra thick PCB, measuring 0.8 inches square. Screw holes are supplied for rigid mounting to the shaker block. This design allows users to easily evaluate the full performance range of the ADXL001ADXL001 vibration sensor without having to solder the device to a separate test board. Solder pads are included that allow users to implement their own application-specific low-pass filter on the output of the device.

The ADXL001ADXL001 is a major advance over previous generations of accelerometers providing high performance and wide bandwidth. This part is ideal for industrial, medical, and military applications where wide bandwidth, small size, low power, and robust performance are essential.

  • Using Analog Devices, Inc. proprietary fifth-generation iMEMsRegistered process enables the ADXL001 to provide the desired dynamic range that extends from ±70 g to ±500 g in combination with 22 kHz of bandwidth.
  • The accelerometer output channel passes through a wide bandwidth differential-to-single-ended converter, which allows access to the full mechanical performance of the sensor.
  • The part can operate on voltage supplies from 3.3 V to 5 V.
  • The ADXL001 also has a self-test (ST) pin that can be asserted to verify the full electromechanical signal chain for the accelerometer channel.
  • The ADXL001 is available in the industry-standard 8-terminal LCC and is rated to work over the extended industrial temperature range (−40°C to +125°C).

Schematic for the EVAL-ADXL001EVAL-ADXL001 is shown in Figure

  • This circuit was designed to allow for a user-configurable low-pass filter on the device output.
  • When no low-pass filter is needed, users must short the R1 solder pads together, and it is recommended that a bypass capacitor (22 nF) be placed on C2 for improved EMI rejection.
  • VDD and VDD2 are shorted together internally on the PCB. This is consistent with normal device operation.

The board layout of the EVAL-ADXL001EVAL-ADXL001 is shown in Figure

  • As delivered, there is no bandwidth limit set for the ADXL001.
  • It is recommended that a ~75 kHz low-pass filter be added to mitigate high frequency noise outside of the vibration band of interest.
