The Analog Devices EVAL-ADXL335ZEVAL-ADXL335Z is a simple breakout board that allows quick evaluation of the performance of the ADXL335 accelerometer. The ADXL335ADXL335 is a 3-axis analog-output accelerometer with ±3 g measurement range. The small size (1" x 1") of the breakout board makes it easy to mount the accelerometer to an existing system without the need for additional hardware and with minimal effect on performance of the system and of the accelerometer.

The EVAL-ADXL335ZEVAL-ADXL335Z comes with

  • 6-pin, 0.1 inch spaced header for access to all power and signal lines that the user can attach to a prototyping board (breadboard) or wire using a standard plug.
  • Four holes are provided for mechanical attachment of the EVAL-ADXL335ZEVAL-ADXL335Z to the application.
  • The dimensions of the EVAL-ADXL335ZEVAL-ADXL335Z are 20 mm × 20 mm with mounting holes set 15 mm × 15 mm at the corners of the printed circuit board (PCB).

TheADXL335ADXL335  Accelerometer:

  • The ADXL335 is a small, thin, low power, complete 3-axis accelerometer with signal conditioned voltage outputs.
  • The product measures acceleration with a minimum full-scale range of ±3 g.
  • The user selects the bandwidth of the accelerometer using the CX, CY, and CZ capacitors at the XOUT, YOUT, and ZOUT pins. Bandwidths can be selected to suit the application, with a range of 0.5 Hz to 1600 Hz for X and Y axes, and a range of 0.5 Hz to 550 Hz for the Z axis.
  • The ADXL335 is available in a small, low profile, 4 mm × 4 mm × 1.45 mm, 16-lead, plastic lead frame chip scale package (LFCSP_LQ).

Special Notes on Handling:

  • The EVAL-ADXL335ZEVAL-ADXL335Z is not reverse polarity protected. Reversing the +V supply and ground pins can cause damage to the ADXL335ADXL335.
  • Dropping the EVAL-ADXL335ZEVAL-ADXL335Z on a hard surface can generate several thousand gees (g) of acceleration, which may exceed the data sheet absolute maximum limits.

Key Applications: Cost sensitive, low power, motion- and tilt-sensing applications, Mobile devices, Gaming systems, Disk drive protection, Image stabilization, Sports and health devices.

The Key Features for Analog Devices EVAL-ADXL335ZEVAL-ADXL335Z:

  • The schematic of the EVAL-ADXL335Z is shown in Figure.
  • Analog bandwidth can be set by changing Capacitors C2, C3, and C4.
  • The EVAL-ADXL335Z has four factory installed 100 nF capa-citors. C1 at VS is a bypass capacitor to reduce supply noise.
  • C2, C3, and C4 at XOUT, YOUT, and ZOUT are filter capacitors to set the bandwidth to 50 Hz.
  • Many applications require a different bandwidth, in which case the user can change C2, C3, and C4 as appropriate.

Key Features for ADXL335ADXL335 Small, Low Power, 3-Axis ±3g Accelerometer:

  •     3-axis sensing
  •     Small, low-profile package 4 mm × 4 mm × 1.45 mm LFCSP
  •     Low power - 350 μA (typical)
  •     Single-supply operation 1.8 V to 3.6 V
  •     10,000 g shock survival
  •     Excellent temperature stability
  •     BW adjustment with a single capacitor per axis
