Kit Overview

The Analog Devices ADF702X Development Kit (EVAL-ADF70XXMBZ2EVAL-ADF70XXMBZ2) provides the hardware and software to both evaluate and develop a low power, low data rate, wireless network using any of the ADF702XADF702X ISM band transceivers with the ADIismLink proprietary protocol. The kit provides the ADIismLink communication protocol intended for use in the license-free ISM bands and adheres to the regulations specified by ETSI (433MHz & 868MHz) and the frequency hopping requirements of FCC 15.247 (902-928MHz).

The platform allows straightforward yet comprehensive configuration of the PHY and MAC layers of the ADIismLink protocol using the provided application software. This allows the user to investigate the trade-offs in protocol performance and also modify the protocol to suit their application. A restricted set of the ADIismLink source code is also provided allowing a developer to build their own application specific network. The kit provides several demonstration networks, like a remote temperature sensor network, which allows the user to get a working wireless system up and running very quickly.

EVAL-ADF70XXMBZ2EVAL-ADF70XXMBZ2 mother board consists of a Cypress USB controller, an ADuC847 microconverter, power management, various interfaces and sensors. The ADIismLINK protocol runs on the ADuC847 microconverter. The EVAL-ADF70XXMBZ2EVAL-ADF70XXMBZ2 mother board will come with the protocol pre-programmed on to the ADuC847. The RF module (ADF702x evaluation board) connects to this controller board and is available separately. The board can be powered from either the USB, a 3.6V battery or a 9V supply.

The RF module, which is plugged into the mother board, consists of the ADF702XADF702X device, output matching circuit optimized for operation in a certain frequency band, harmonic filter, PLL loop filter, de-coupling and xtal. This RF module provides a low-cost, optimally matched RF reference design which you can use as a starting point for your design. A low-cost BOM is achieved by using a 2-layer PCB, a low-cost xtal, and a simple combined output matching circuit which eliminates the need for an external antenna switch.

Key Applications: wireless sensor, telemetry and alarm applications.

ADIsimLINK

The platform provides an "air-interface" communication protocol that can be used in either licensed or license free ISM bands and can adhere to the regulations specified by ETSI EN300-220-1 and ERC-REC 70-03 (433MHz & 868MHz) and FCC 15.247 (902-928MHz). This includes support for both ETSI and FCC compliant frequency hopping.

The platform allows straightforward yet comprehensive configuration of the ADF702XADF702X transceiver, the Physical Layer (PHY) and the Media Access Control (MAC) layer of the ADIismLINK protocol using the application software provided. This allows the user to investigate the various trade-offs in protocol performance and also tailor the protocol parameters to suit their application.

ADF70xxHost.exe (Target Application Software)

This application, written in Visual C++, is used to configure the ADF702XADF702X transceiver and ADIismLINK protocol via the USB connection. ADIismLINK configurations are stored as ASCII .ini files and a number of pre-set configurations are provided with the development kit. These support various members of the ADF702XADF702X series configured at a range of BAUD rates and modulation modes.

The various demonstrations integrated into the ADIismLINK target software (e.g. dummy data, accelerometer sensor, temperature sensor, range testing etc.) can be configured from within the ADF70xxHost application.

I Ordered above hardware and it came without any antenna(s). Should the hardwrae work without even antenna?

If i need to order antenna which one should I order?

    Regards,

    Arpinder
