Following the instructions on the enclosed 'Quick start guide' does not result in the driver for the VCOM installing. If this product is not compatible with Windows 8 or 64-bit Windows 7 then put that…

    Hi,

I don't know if we have different versions of the board, but I found that the driver worked with SW1-4 set OFF, ON, ON, ON. The driver lpc18xx-vcom.inf then installed correctly and I was able to connect to the virtual com port and see the switch demo results as described in the quickstart guide.

Hope this helps someone, it's very poor when the simplest of demos doesn't work straight out of the box!

I have sussed the driver side of this out by trial and error. The boot switch needs to be set to boot from SPIFI (on, off, off, off), not from USB1 (on, off, off, on) as the setup sheet shows. This then shows "LPC USB vcom port" in device manager and the LPC 18xx driver is accepted. But beyond that, I cannot get hyperterminal to produce any output from the device vcom port (COM6 in my case). Also the driver is unsigned so will be hard to use on 64 bit OS's.

The VID and PID for this driver does not match the EVB hardware/firmware. The EVB gives a VID of 1FC9 and PID 000C and shows up as "NXP" other device (IE unknown, not VCOM virtual com port device as the documentation says). Whereas the .inf driver has the PID 2002. I have tried the driver on this site (Example1), and driver from LPC-1830Xplorer and both have the PID 2002 so something is clearly not right here. Clearly nobody has checked these kits work with the software. Very poor!

I contacted embest for a driver also, but the one they gave me didn't work. I think I have the jumpers set up correctly and everything.  I am running windows 7 64-bit. Will the driver you have work for me?

I was unable to get the virtual serial working working with the driver supplied from element14 but obtained a  new one from embest which worked fine, although it is not digitally  signed. Will provide if needed.

Having the same problem as above.  Can't get the driver to install on any of my computers (1= XP; 1= WIN 7; & 1 = Win 8.)  One difference I noted on all three computers was that when the system recognizes the usb device it is recognized as "LPC" not "lpc18xx VCOM" as stated on the Quick Start guide. WTF?  Should I rename the inf file?

If this product is not compatible with Windows 8 or 64-bit Windows 7 then put that information in letters 9 f**king feet high on the documentation!

Update: - It was a dodgy board. The second one works. Thanks.
