misaligned grid and test points

Former Member

I created a schematic with just a single Analog Devices ADIS16209 now I

need test points. I will be using Keystone miniature color coded thru-hole

type. .100 Dia.

http://www.keyelco.com/pdfs/M55p51.pdf

What is the equivalent in Eagle? I tried some of the built in test pads but

they don't show dimensions. I tried keeping a standard default 0.1 inch

grid. When I create the schematic everything aligns but when I create the

board they don't align with the grid why? This is my my very first board.

As I said in my first post this will be my first board. I have watched all

    of the tutorial video at:

    http://tangentsoft.net/elec/movies/

and tried many things on my own. I didn't realize that my posts were random

at all. They are all problems I am encountering with this circuit board. I

don't see any reason to create another post hope someone answers them and

take a long time to finish the board. I do appreciate your help. Eagle has

    a pretty step learning curve.

Hiding the tNames and bNames only hides the "IC1" while I'm routing.

According to the TangentSoft tutorial "TT #9"  When running the cam

processor for gerber247x.cam on the tab marked "Silkscreen CMP" the tNames

layer is highlighted by default. This shows up in the gerbers so if I

didn't move the "IC1" it would be over the route in the gerber. I tried it

and when viewing the .plc layer the "IC1" is on top of the route.

Adding the chip "ADIS16209" .................... Eagle won't let me smash

the part to move it so

I guess I'll have to copy and create my own version.

You didn't say, do you know how close to the edge of the board I can have

silkscreen or parts when using the Pentalogix board service.

    Hi Jay

    A few things

    1. The "ADIS16209" from the library  (v5.11)  does smash and I can move the

name,  IC1 in your case. To be able to SMASH you must have the layer

tOrigins turned on. i.e. the origin cross for the part is showing.

    2. ........do you know how close to the edge of the board I can have

silkscreen or parts when using the Pentalogix board service.......Always ask

your board service these questions. They will often have it available on

their site, along with a whole heap of other stuff you have to know.  If not

email them. No one else has the definitive answer.

3.Tutorials. Watching video tutorials is a double edged sword. It's easy and

they reveal features and techniques quickly but alas we don't learn well

from them.   There are other tutorials that are "read and do" which will

teach you better. Try the one that comes with Eagle in the Docs folder. Read

the manual also in that folder. Then do others you find on the net like

those at Sparkfun.com. Don't just read them, replicate what they are doing.

As they say, you could  read a book on programming  but when you get to the

end you won't be able to program.

    All the best

    Warren

Thank you. I just wasn't right clicking on the origin cross. I was clicking

on the border of the chip instead and only getting a "move" menu or another

area and getting a ghosted out move menu.
