CS v1.4 had the dimensioning feature, but I cannot find it in v1.5. Was it deliberately removed, accidentally disabled, or moved to some other place in the menu system?
Thank you! Having worked with AD since 2007 imagine my surprise that you cannot place a dimension on a footprint. So dimensioning of PCBs is still there, but you cannot place a dimension on a footprint (for documentation purposes or simply checking you have it right.)
In the PCB library there are commands in the Tools menu for measuring distance and distance between primitives as you probably saw. Shortcut for simple measurement is CTRL-M.
I got curious about what happens if you try to cut and paste a dimension line from a PCB into a PCB library. The dimensions will paste in as primitives that can be moved separately. I guess this might be useful if you really want to go to the effort of manually pasting and updating the primitives. I have never had a need to do this at the PCB library level.
Also, I thought maybe they removed the place dimension line from the tool bar but it would be available as a command in the search box when in PCB library but alas, it does not appear to be there.
Yes, not exactly a standard requirement I admit, but useful for documenting and confirmation. I was actually using it to design a PCB with very specific connector locations and dimensions that is treated as a component for the purposes of re-use and consistency if updated. The 'component' is placed as normal, but the the primitives are unlocked and the profile used to create the board shape. Then the 'component' is locked again. Some additional rules added to make the DRC ignore component conflicts and you have a method for sharing the same board design across a multiple of final product. If you need to tweak the board in some way, you just change the definition in the library and do a footprint update in each design.
