part component link problem with import changes from schematic

I am having a problem with the component links and importing changes from schematic ECO creation. This problem is expressed in a couple of ways.

Component links:

I add new components to the design. I use component links to match the schematic components to the parts in the layout the way I want it. It ignores this. If I go back into Component Links, it has matched different parts. For example. I want U1-U1, U2-U2, U3-U3. It says, nope, I want U1-U2, U2-U3, U3-U1. No matter waht I do, it ignores the assignments I make.

Import Changes from Schematics ECO creation.

It will do something like

delete some parts

delete some pins from nets

change the refdes of some other parts to the refedes of the deleted parts

add new parts for the refdes that were changed to other parts

assign pins to nets

 

Why?

So you go ahead and let it do that. You would think all should be good, it should be happy now. But no. Next time importing, it wants to do the same exact thing all over again.

 

Why?

 

I tried manually editing the netlist the way I wanted it...to match the schematic. It still wants to do the same thing.

 

Is there some way I can force it to use the component links I assign? I assigned the links the way I want them, stop changing them!

  • The linking between component instances on the schematic and on the PCB layout are through the unique ID codes.  You can see these in the schematic by pulling up component properties.

    In this case the code JRUFBHEU should match the PCB part.  So, if I look at the corresponding footprint I see the code but preceded by a '\' character.

    Altium Designer works this way and CircuitStudio follows the same method.

    When linking parts these get initially matched by other means such as designators.

     

    For the problem parts you mention, you should check that the unique IDs match.  if during design you copy parts, delete parts, set designators manually, etc the component links get confused.  Sometimes it is easier to delete the footprints on the PCB and update the PCB from the schematic to bring in the footprint again and get the proper link.
