How to update symbols or footprints in Circuit Studio after a library change?

Former Member

How can I update all instances of a schematic symbol in a design after I make a change to a schematic library symbol? How can I update all footprint instances in a design after I make a change to a PCB library footprint?

Altium Designer had "Tools - Update from Libraries" to search for changes and update a design. How is this done in Circuit Studio?

    Hi Toby,

From the Library editor, there is a button on the Home menu to update symbols/footprints.

Also from the right click menu you can update the same, right clicking on the symbol/footprint

name in the list on the Library panel.

    Regards,

    Darren

OK, so I wrote a long response to not understanding how this works and I just figured it out.  Whatever part you have selected in the library you're working in is what is updated in the open sch when you press the "Update Symbols" button ( I only have one page schematic in this case, dunno if it affects multiple page schematics).  One frustrating thing is it doesn't go through the ECO process so you don't know what it's going to affect.

What I was hoping for was Altium's "Update from Libraries" where it looks at all parts in the sch, compares it to the libraries and will update based on changed geometry in one ECO.  Any plans to add this?

    Thanks!

    Andy

I also wish they would add this feature.  The fact that Eagle has this type of global check and update with one button press makes it seem likely that it should be included in Circuit Studio to be competitive..

This feature should be in CircuitStudio as it's included for free in CircuitMaker.

    Toby,

I just sort-of fell into this after going crazy for several hours.

    1. goto projects and double-click on your PCB library you made changes in

    2. select "PCB Library" on the menu panel (mine is located on the left hand tab)

    3. highlight (or click) on any component in your library

    4. right-click and select "Update PCB with all"

    5. This will update all your symbol changes into your PCB design.

I'm a newbie with Circuitstudio (3 weeks user). I hope this will help you.

    -Mark.

Are there any news on this by now? I am new to CircuitStudio and this feature would very much be appreciated.

Sry for grave digging this old post image
