Symantec Endpoint Protection complains that CircuitStudioSetup.exe is a security risk

a.teitlebaum
a.teitlebaum over 8 years ago

I just downloaded CircuitStudioSetup.exe from http://altium-install.s3.amazonaws.com/CircuitStudio/CircuitStudioSetup.exe so that I could install the free trial, and Symantec Endpoint Protection popped up to tell me that "The Download Insight sensitivity level does not allow this file". The reasons given are:

  • Malicious
There is strong evidence that this file is untrustworthy.
  • Very Few Users
This file has been seen by fewer than 50 Symantec users.
  • Mature
Symantec has known about this file for more than 30 days.

Has anyone else had this show up? I'm curious what "strong evidence" there is that the file is untrustworthy. I bypassed Symantec, downloaded the file, and scanned it, and it doesn't show any viruses. The file I downloaded has the following hashes:

MD5: ACB49F3D580B12F3ED001B645248E35A

SHA-1: 57CAEC529BA98E255E2978519CB226B2CA57455C

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks,

Aaron T.

    Hi Aaron,

It's likely a Symantec issue. I downloaded the same file and the latest McAfee [12th Sep 2016 DAT file] had no issue with it (I confirmed the SHA-1 hash, it matches yours).
