CircuitStudio how to import PCB from Altium with 3D

dexterkhm

Hello I have problems with import in CircuitStudio. I exported PCB from Altium as "PCB binary 5.0" than I imported it in CircuitStudio PCB get it fine, but instead 3D of elements I get just clored cubes. I even connected library to this project but Cubes left the same. But when I add a new element into schematics and than in PCB new element appears fine and with 3D.

So everything is as like in this video https://youtu.be/YAWBsShCId4?t=4m23s

So  maybe someone can say how to refresh 3D in all just imported PCB

Given that CS's native format is a modified version of AD's PCB Binary 6.0, maybe you'll have better success transferring that format?

It is possible to import back into CS but does require a little work.

Saving back to binary 5.0 format in Altium Designer will not automatically take the step models back so you need to get the PcbLib file with those library components (Altium Designer can make one of these from the PCBdoc) and locate each component that has the model missing. Open the PcbLib library and right click in the PCB Library panel on the component name: Update PCB With (component name). This updates the board with the step model. (If you're using an IntLib library, you'll need to decompile it in order to get the PcbLib file).

Can you give a little more detail on these steps? I created a schematic which a friend imported into AD and added 3D components. I received project back with back the schematic file and binary-5 pcbfile which I imported. This worked somewhat, but the components with 3D step detail are mere blobs. Is there a way in CS I can update the components that didn't get converted correctly.

    Thanks,

    Brian

Hi Brian. If you friend can send you the pcblib file that includes the 3D models then you can use that to update your PCB.

I tried a couple of steps and this is the sequence that worked:

    1.  Close the project.

    2. Copy over the new pcbLib file.

    3. Open the project.

    4. Import the pcbdoc file.

    5. View layout in 3D... everything looks fine image

    Thanks,

    Brian
