need help with libraries

Real dumb questions here...

1.  Can a *.pcbLib library contain multiple footprints?

2.  Same for *.SchLib...

3.  Do documents go "into" libraries???  Or is it the other way around?

4.  How do I put a footprint into a PCB library?

I have read all the documentation... it is horrible... just horrible

The basics of component creation are covered in this video https://www.element14.com/community/events/4387/l/circuitstudio-quick-start-webinar-series-part-2-creating-a-component-finding-and-placing-a-component. The video illustrates creating a schematic symbol and a footprint part.

A library is a 'document' in CS terminology, both schematic and pcb libraries can each contain many components. When in the library editor use View > Library (NOT Libraries) to bring up a panel containing a list of the components within the library.

The logic in adding new components is a bit different in the schematic library editor and in the PCB library editor.

In schematic library editor you have in the SCH Library panel (next to Project panel) the Add button. Press that an a dialog open to ask the component name.

In the PCB library editor you got to the PCB Library panel and on top of the component list you press the right mouse button to open a floating menu where select New Black Component. There is also a Component Wizard but I have newer used that.

If you want to start a new component or schematic footprint using existing component in a schema or a footprint in PCB design, you can do those.

In schematic library editor you can paste a component copied from a schematic by pressing the right mouse button on the component list in the SCH Library panel. A new component is added with perhaps an odd name. The name you can chance in the Component Properties dialog Library Link -> Symbol Reference. Note that if you have a low resolution display like mine in the laptop (Full HD) then you need to scroll down the top-left panel to the bottom to find the Symbol Reference.

You can also copy and paste a component in the library to make variant of the component. I have used this to make resistors with different component sizes and thus footprints. The nice feature in this is that all the parameters are copied as well. I have also used my old components in CircuitMaker taken from Octopart library as starting point to get some properties to the components. With Octopart components make sure you check everything you want to use because error are there far too common.

In PCB library editor you just past the footprint copied in from a PCB to the drawing canvas. Component name is given in the component properties dialog.

PS  I tried to compile the schematic and PCB libraries to an integrated library, but the IntLib I got is no OK. Investigation ongoing. I have a discussion open for that in this forum.

PS2 I have a background in Altium Designer use a couple of years back and so I find the AD documentation sometimes useful to understand CircuitStudio (and earlier CircuitMaker).
