Save Design Workspace (.DsnWrk)?

crimsonaudio
crimsonaudio over 7 years ago

I just purchased CircuitStudio and have spent the last few hours trying to figure out if there is a capability to save the Design Workspace as there is in Altium Designer. There is a reference to Workspace1.DsnWrk at the very top of the window, but I don't see a way to save that as something else.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

    I can't seem to find it, CircuitStudio might not have that capability. jamesharrimanaltium might know.

    Hey Dan, it seems you can not save work spaces in CircuitStudio.

    Alex, Thanks for the reply. While the lack of this feature in CircuitStudio is certainly not a show-stopper, it was a very handy thing to have in Altium Designer - the ability to have a collection of projects in one place and have immediate access to them. Maye we can suggest this for future updates of CS?

    I can defiantly suggest this but to be completely honest with you i'm not sure how likely i'll be able to sneak this in, but i'll try. It was not incorporated in CircuiStudio as they thought it was more of an Altium Designer feature and shouldn't be in CircuitStudio. There are a lot of features that would be great for CirctuiStudio but if we gave CircuiStudio the same capabilities as Altium Designer than no one would buy Altium Designer. Nothing is set in stone though, Altium is a very adaptable company so who knows, just my thoughts.

    Thanks for the feedback

    So far it's the only thing missing that makes much of a difference to me. It is a nice convenience.

    I'll keep my fingers crossed!

    Thanks!

    Hi Dan,

    Alexsander is right, the feature isn't in CircuitStudio, even though the list of projects you see in the Projects panel is saved internally into a default workspace.

    If you're into a bit of hacking, there's no reason you shouldn't write some scripts/batch files to substitute the default file after quitting/before relaunching CircuitStudio, which is located here:

    C:\Users\(wuindows signin)\AppData\Roaming\Altium\CircuitStudio {GUID long number}\LastWorkspace\Workspace1.DsnWrk

    It's a plain text file, for example, here are two projects loaded:

    [ProjectGroup]

    Version=1.0

    [Project1]

    ProjectPath=C:\Users\Public\Documents\Altium\Projects\Blank PCB Project\Blank PCB Project.PrjPcb

    [Project2]

    ProjectPath=C:\Users\Public\Documents\Altium\Projects\Test123\Test123.PrjPcb

    Best regards,

    James Harriman

    Thanks, James. I was curious if there might be a way to "hack" this. I'll see what I can come up with.

    Thanks again!

    Dan
