Weird behavior from a vault copied schematic component

_aw

I am building my personal library and copied a microchip microcontroller from the vault.  I wanted to modify it for my own personal preferences.  I saved and compiled the library.  Now the problem...

I put the part from my local library into my schematic, it is fine.  It looks like my part. I double click on it and open the preferences and click "OK" and it reverts back to the original part from the vault.  Here is a gif of what happens:

Do I have to recreate the part from scratch to get rid of this problem?  Any ideas?

Yes and no...the behavior you see is what makes Vault problematic (and one of the reasons I don't use it).

You should be able to find the part on the Altium Live content

Those are normal libraries and you can copy the schematic symbol and footprint in to your library without issue.

You can check that a part has no connection back to Vault (or some other library) by looking at the fields in the component inspector related to the library source.

Thanks for the input.  I tried a .hex editor on the library file, but was not successful in leaving the file in a state that was still usable to CS.  Maybe with some more attention to detail it could be done, but I decided that it was not worth my time and I just redrew the part from scratch.

Thanks for pointing me to the live content libraries... I will look there next time if I want to grab a part.

The standalone libraries from https://designcontent.live.altium.com/  are the best way to go. It is possible to copy a vault component and use them but it is convoluted because the vault in CS was never intended to be used that way. The instructions to help you copy a vault component are in a knowledge base article.
