CircuitStudio Schematic compile extremly slow

Hi,

I am evaluating CS V1.5.1.

I imported a 30-page schematic from eagle (1109 parts, 978 nets, 4362 pins), which went very smooth – took about 3 min.

But now, every action involving “compile”, like “electrical rule check” or “bill of materials”, takes 17 minutes (!).

I compared it to eagle and diptrace, using the same schematic, which both need about 1 to 3 seconds for these steps.

(computer: quad core 3.4GHz, 16GB ram, Win10-64).

Are there build-in performance limitations in the schematic editor? (I know about the 5k limit on PCB pads)

Did anyone experience similar issues?

Thanks in advance

Stefan

P.S.:

I now made some more tests with different projects, all of them imported from eagle, with no additional libraries in use:

  • Project 7: (as above): 30 sheets, 4362 pins, 978 nets: ERC takes 17 minutes
  • Project C: 23 sheets, 4193 pins, 709 nets: ERC takes 6 minutes
  • Project H: 22 sheets, 4872 pins, 718 nets: ERC takes 2 minutes
  • Project M: 13 sheets, 2660 pins, 527 nets: ERC runs fast, results show up immediately
  • Project L: 14 sheets, 1689 pins, 381 nets: ERC runs fast, results show up immediately

So I suspect there is a critical size, at which the compile time rises exponentially.

I remember having this problem while using Altium many years ago.  It was project specific.  For some unknown reason, the compile took an extraordinarily long time.  It was only the one project too.  Eventually I got sick of the wait and I made a new project.  I found that the problem was with the schematics, more specifically one sheet in the schematics.  I remade the sheet and it solved my long compile time problem.
