Where is this AD feature in CS?

jimolson

I use AD during the workday.  And this question (like others I've posted in this wonderful forum) fall in the category of "where is this AD feature hiding?".  Usually Peter writes back that there isn't an icon for it but you can access (whatever) through the search box in the upper right hand corner.

So here goes: when I click on a schematic's wire in AD, this highlights the entire wire from one end to the other, possibly including wire beyond nearby vertices.  When I click on the wire a second time, AD highlights in red the endpoints of a shorter sub-segment directly under the cursor.  This short sub-segment never includes wire beyond the nearby vertices.

When I hit DELETE on the keyboard the red-ended sub-segment gets deleted, but not the wire lengths beyond.

What is this "highlight sub-segments of a wire" feature called?

Does it exist in CS?  If so, how do I enable it?

Thanks, guys.  Great forum.

Hi Jim. I don't believe there is any way to achieve what you want. Clicking a wire segment seems to select based on how the wire was originally drawn rather than limiting to a specific line segment. It is possible to cut a wire to help control what is deleted (right click > Break Wire) and it is possible to select a whole connection (Home > Select > Connection).

Schematic Editing Strategies | Online Documentation for Altium Products (documentation.circuitstudio.com....) says:

Deleting a segmentClick once to select the entire wire (each vertex is shown in the selection color), then click a second time to select the required segment; its vertices will become red. Click the Delete key on the keyboard to remove that segment.

So this feature is supposed to be available. In CS 1.5.2 (Build30), trial, downloaded 2 weeks ago, it is not. So what? Bug, or is the documentation ahead of reality and this will be available in one of the next fixes? Or is there a place somewhere hidden in an options dialogue where the function needs to be activated?

    regards, Georg

The document describes it but it does not work.  To edit the schematic nets, use the wire break and move vertex and/or select-then-delete the broken dangling wire methods instead.
