Error, Exception Occurred In Copy

Hello all,

I have been using CS for a while now and I have suddenly lost the ability to copy or cut elements in schematics. I have searched for possible solutions, but so far none have resolved the issue.

The error I get is: Invalid Parameter. Exception Occurred In Copy.

This persisted over a reinstall of CS, reboots, and happens in any project I open. I have also tried to reannotate the design and made sure the windows printer spooler process was running. It seems like this is a reasonably common issue, but few fix suggestions exist.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what could resolve this? It's very frustrating to have such a simple feature be completely useless. I have found that duplicate works as a temporary workaround, but that will not allow you to move parts across sheets.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I suspect there is some bad parameter in at least one of the symbols you are trying to copy.

Did you try to open a new empty schematic and put down some new parts and see if the same error happens?  If it does then you can at least submit to Altium for support with the simple design.

Yes, I tried making a new project with an empty schematic and the error still occurs.

I sent one of my projects to a coworker and they were able to copy paste just fine.

Doing a search on Google for "Altium Invalid Parameter. Exception Occurred In Copy" turns up some others that have seen similar behavior in Altium Designer.  Some have solved this by full reboot of the computer.   That may be consistent with other people mentioning issues with printer spooler services.

To test this I stopped my printer spooler and then tried to cut and paste parts on a schematic and I get this message.

I would bet that reboot of my PC would restart the spooler service since it is configured to automatically start.  The copy error did not reoccur after I restarted the printer spooler service.

However, you say you have already tried all this or at least confirmed that the printer spooler process is running. So, I'm not saying this information will solve your problem but hoping it helps and if not you then maybe someone else.

Perhaps, if your computer is low on memory or diskspace it might behave similarly.
Sorry, I can't do much better than this at the moment.  Please let us know if you solve the problem.
