CircuitStudio Creating Components: Unable to add 3D Body

dtusllitg

I've recently installed an evaluation version and followed a tutorial on How to Create a Component in CircuitStudio

and stuck at 2:24 when the tutorial suggests adding a 3D body | Generic 3D Model | Embed Generic 3D Model.

After clicking on the Embed Generic 3D Model button, the tutorial shows a list of models in 3D step files folder.

I can't find the 3D step files folder anywhere in my Windows 10 computer, specifically C:\Users\Public\Documents\Altium\CS\Library

Please, can somebody lead me to solve the issue?

Thanks.

I found that out that the 3D step file has never been downloaded.

    Thanks.

To be clear, there is no library of 3D step models that comes with CS.  You can find your own models at various sites on the Internet.  Digikey often has some and most manufacturers have them.  You can make reasonable and functional models using the primitive shapes.  For example, an electrolytic capacitor is just a cylinder and possibly a box with it.  If you want realistic 3D views then you have to get good models somewhere.

Also, the method to add a 3D body directly to a PCB is not obvious as it is with the PCB library.  In the PCB you can do it from the search box instead of from the menu ribbon.  I think you type in "Add 3D" and the command will appear in the search box for you to select and complete.  Took me a while to figure that out.

I get almost all of my STEP models from the site below. They're free for the download, but you have to register. At least that's how it used to work. You'll probably need to tweak the STEP models a little bit in terms of the X, Y, Z locations, but it's easy to do once you get the hang of it.

Another repository for free STEP models is www.grabcad.com.
