Difficulty adding custom CircuitStudio template files into version control

Hi Everyone!

My team recently set up a repository and started adding CircuitStudio project files to version control. It's gone well up to this point and we've been able to start adding libraries as well. However, I ran into a bit of roadblock hen attempting to add a template type file (.SchDot) into version control. When I open it in CS and right click on the file the version control tools are grayed out and unusable. I thought this might have something to do with the fact that the template did not exist as part of an existing project. However, I found that adding it to a project didn't make a difference as the version control tools were still unusable. Adding the project itself to version control and then commiting the whole project didn't seem to make a difference either as I still couldn't commit the template. As a test I tried checking out the project containing the template to a location on my local drive. However, when I tried opening the project the template file showed up under the Missing Files folder. I am starting to feel a bit lost.

Has anyone on this forum found a way to successfully add a template file (.SchDot) from CircuitStudio into version control? If so, how did you go about doing it?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Eric

I created a project called Schematic templates and I added a .SchDot file to it. I committed the whole project the repository. I then checked out the whole project and then opened it and the schdot file is there with a green checkmark indicating it is up to date. I modified the schdot file, saved it then committed it back to the repository. It all seems to work for me.

    Hi Adam,

Thanks for trying it on your end. I was able to get it working upon trying it a second time. It seemed the issue came from the fact that the project file and the template file were not in the same folder on my local drive when I had opened them in Altium and committed them to version control. As a result, when I checked the project out and reopened the checked out project in CS, it showed that the template file was missing. When I repeated the process, but made sure the project file and template file were in the same folder on my local drive initially, I was able to get the .SchDot file into version control. It's all green check marks on my end now. Thanks again for confirming that.
