Designator Printing Issue (PCB imported from Protel.DDB)

Hi There,

This issue is about designator printing Issue on Circuit Studio,

I have a PCB imported from a Protel .DDB file. I can se top designators of this PCB are on dimensions layer. However when I try to generate pdf reports from this PCB, they never appear on pdf. Only fix I found is to manually move individual designators to top overlay.

Anyone of you have experienced this issue? Is there are any easy fix for this. This is really difficult for PCBs with 100s of components.

Issue is same for our all PCBs imported from Protel .DDB files.

cheers!

Hi, I think you can make global changes using the Object Inspector in the View tab. I have used this before to change the font size of all designators on the PCB, but it should be able to move the layer as well.

To select the designators open the Inspector and set the 'include' field to display only components + text, and then select all (Ctrl A). Hopefully you can then change the layer field to Top Overlay.

I'd back up first in case anything flaky happens, never know with .ddb files.

    Hi Alijaki,

Thank you very much for posting this reply, it worked for me and you save the day!

First I Press F12 to bring up the PCB Filter, selected components under groups and text under objects

Then I clicked on object inspector, under specific object I changed the layer property to top overlay

this changed the layer of all designators on top now I can generate report without an issue. Thank you very much!
