Supplier Link --> Parameters in .schlib

mflux_gamble
mflux_gamble over 8 years ago

Circuit studio seems to be missing the ability to import parameter names and values from supplier links.  You can search suppliers pretty similar, but you cannot drag/drop onto schematics, or schematic libraries.  The CS documentation makes reference to the supplier link fields being reported on BOM's exported from CS.

This seems like a silly omiision.

Any way to get this to work that anyone knows of?

thanks!

I've tried and found no workaround for parameter import. It seems purposely neutered in a very strange way. However, if your desired component exists in the Altium Vault, you can follow THESE instructions…

    Hi mflux_gamble,

CircuitStudio doesn't currently have this abililty within the schematic components. The outputs such as are available in the BOM when the Solution 1 field is enabled as per the screenshot so the prices are updated each time the Bill of Materials is generated.

Will this functionality be added in the future? Why are there options in Data management which seem to indicate this is possible?

    Hi Mike,

There aren't currently plans to modify this functionality in CircuitStudio as far as tweaking the current system goes, however development in supplier information and BOM outputs is being done for other products that could be brought into CircuitStudio in the future. I can't promise this specifically though, since it's not currently planned.

Is there a particular function you're interested in? One method of copying information out of the Supplier Links dialog is to select the wanted Name/Values and paste them into a spreadsheet. The Name and Value fields will be separated in the spreadsheet and can then be copied back to individual parameters in CircuitStudio.

    Best regards,

Thanks for the reply. Along with supplier info, I would like the manufacturer and manu part number to be pulled over from the supplier info, as well as the description. What's confusing me is that there seems to be some configuration available in preferences, but that configuration is ignored. What am I missing?

I was wondering the same thing, here is the menu.

    image

Under the system preferences is this menu and at the bottom is the parameter import options, the only two that we actually get when we add a supplier link to a part happen to be the two that have the suffix check box grayed out (Supplier and Supplier Part Number). Im guessing maybe this was an Altium Designer feature that got left out of Circuit Studio but it would make component design so much faster

    Hi Liam,

Thank you for documenting this so well, with your enhancements to retain parameter information!

Unfortunately this isn't very helpful. The main issue is that I am commonly building resistors and components on a daily basis. At work I use Altium, and it's a breeze. Right click > add supplier links and parameters. This was available in AD17, and thus is fundamental built into the framework of Circuit Studio. Now I need to manually copy and paste 10-20 parameters from my suppliers into my component parameters. This becomes an even bigger headache when you finally go to your CM, and like 30% of the parts on the PCBA change due to sourcing. For example I am trying to add a simple 1.2k 5% 0402 resistor, and your vault doesn't have any in stock 1.2k 5% 0402 resistors. But I can get an obscure SoC, and if I was going to add an obscure SoC I would make it by hand, as I would not trust your library to be correct.

Frankly Circuit Studio is the best option for my contracting projects because its affordable, but the limitations are arbitrary. Why even have supplier links, if you can't import the manufacturer part number? My BOMs that go to CMs in China don't even include the supplier part number, as they are going to independently source the component. All they want is the Manufacturer and PN.

Let me know if I'm missing something here, but i just want a simple way to add resistors and capacitors. And I need to be able to specify the PN.
