Changing the name of a net

I would like to change the name of a net that has tons of connection points in a schematic.

I know that I can change the name of this net in the PCB editor, however the problem with this approach is that as soon as I go to sync the PCB layout file with the schematic, the schematic's net names automatically override the new net name I just changed to.

If I try to change the net name in the PCB editor, and then update the schematic from the PCB editor's changes, I get a message saying that the net name cannot be changed via an ECO.

It would appear that the only way to change a net name at the schematic level is to individually select each net label connected to the net in question one by one and manually change its name.

Seems crazy.  Maybe I'm crazy for saying so.

Thoughts?

Here's a video demonstrating what I'm talking about:

I don't know how you can change the name of a net from the PCB to the Schematic.  But I do know how you can change a net from the Schematic to the PCB.  Just drop a Net Label on the net in your schematic editor.  Update your PCB and that will change the net name.  Hopefully there is a backwards way to do this as I have found that sometimes I would like to name the nets in reverse as well.image

Hmm, that seems to have worked... sort of.

I think I should have clarified in my original post that the net I'm trying to change the name of is actually a power port.  Dropping a net label onto any net connected to that power port indeed seems to change the name of all the nets connected to other versions of that power port.

So, I guess what I really want to know is how to change the name of a power port across an entire schematic.

For posterity, I tried the method you suggested for changing the name of a regular net across an entire schematic, however it didn't work.  If I drop a net label called "NET_1_test" on a net called "NET_1", it gets separated from all the rest of the "NET_1" nets on the rest of the schematic.

So, the original question is still relevant as well.  But it would be good to know how to do both (change a net name in a schematic, change a power port name in a schematic).

Changing the name the net associated with a power symbol should be easy. Drop a power port onto the schematic then bring up the property dialog and change the net name.

Use property dialog to change the name

For regular nets across multiple sheets it is the port name that is important, the net labels are local to a single sheet only.
