Making Integrated Library with Several Components

I'm trying to make an integrated library with multiple parts, each with it's own footprint. Can someone point out documentation on how to do this? Altium documentation does not discuss this.

 

I can make an integrated library with a single component and a single footprint. I want to make a library of connectors that includes perhaps 4 different connectors. Would also be helpful for groups of other things as well.

 

I need a step-by-step (e.g., click this, this, that, etc.) guide. It appears from making the single component libraries that there is a very particular sequence that needs to be followed.

  • Hi Dan, if you can make a library with a single part then you know virtually everything. To add an extra symbol to your library open the source library document (*.SchLib), view the library panel (View | Library) and click the top "Add" button on the SCH Library panel. Very similar for adding a footprint apart from instead of an Add button use a right click then select an appropriate option.

     

    Do consider if you really need to use integrated libraries. It is often easier to make use of the SchLib and PcbLib files directly because of the extra work involved in updating PCBs if you make changes to components contained within an integrated library.

    Peter, Thanks for the reply and explanation. That SCH Library panel opens up a whole new set of things to try.

     

    In all the videos i watched, and all the on-line documentation i read, that never came up as an option. It's also a bit confusing in the View tab to have both Libraries and Library. Needs to be a little more intuitive.

     

    On your last comment, I had the impression from the documentation that integrated libraries were recommended way to go. I'll look into that issue in more detail now as well.
