Hey everyone,
I was interested in using parts from Octopart in CS. This is really easy if you are using Altium Designer, but it is not an option for CS.
I found a work-around to do it, but I am wondering if someone has a faster/better way to do this.
Below you can find my method (hopefully this will help those who are interested in having some files from octopart but don't know how to do it)
1. Go to https://octopart.com/
2. If you don't have an account yet, create one. If you have an account, log in.
3. Search for the desired component, and under filters, click CAD MODELS, and select Symbol and Footprint.
4. Select the desired part
5. Click CAD Models
6. Download the file with Altium Designer format
7. Unzip the file
8. In CircuitStudio, with a project open, click on the following options: Project -> Add existing Documents -> Select the documents you downloaded
9. Your schematic symbol and pcb footprint are ready to use.
Does anyone have a better method than this? As far as I know it is not possible to install the plug-in like you can in AD, and this is obviously much slower than browsing the components directly through CS... It is weird that CircuitMaker (which is free) has this feature, while CS doesn't.
