Replacing components on Schematic/PCB

Hi,

I have a board that has a bunch of identical capacitors.  The capacitor is set up with the manufacturers part number etc.  I want to replace the cap with a new cap and different foot print.  I'm not worried about routing ( I have not routed the board yet) but it would be nice if the replacement capacitors were in the same place on the board. 

 

Is there a way to do this or am I screwed.  image

 

Also if this was in Altium is there a way to do this.

  • The following seems to work for standard libraries, not sure about vault components.

     

    Select the components on the schematic document and bring up the object inspector (View | Object Inspector). Change field "Design Item ID" to be that of the new component. It may be necessary to inspect an instance of the new component to determine the Device Item ID property. Sometimes it seems necessary to untick the Use Library Name checkbox. Once the change is complete you can then update the PCB from the schematic using Home | Project > Update PCB Document. The components on the PCB remain in place. It may be worth running Tools | Component Links from the PCB first to make sure your design is in sync.
