XDF 2018: Take This Poll and Tell Us What Interests You Most

The Xilinx Developer Forum in San Jose is over. But the learning has just begun! If you found the topics I discussed in my blog interesting, please take the following poll to tell me what interests you most. Your answers will influence what content, topics and information I will provide to element14 community members in the future. Thanks.

Xilinx seem to be mainly interested in big FPGA stuff these days and the questions reflect that. My interests are much more in the realm of glue logic, hardware protocol conversions, FPGA acceleration…

Currently I am working on a project including I2S streaming, SDRAM DDR controller and dynamic IC configuration over I2C with a Spartan7 device.. Future project might be an SPI bridge to give uC access…

I have been thinking of FPGA more as the community has shifted time/resources there. Is this a valuable skill? I think so. Will it be popular with people? That one is hard, since the difficulty exists. Programming is more or less sequential. But circuit design is one that has a potential for race conditions along with propagation design problems. Parallelism is a given unlike programming it is not. Whenever programs have implied loops for instance, it is easy to forget. Here that could be disastrous. Mixing a SoC with FPGA design is good leverage both worlds.

Xilinx seem to be mainly interested in big FPGA stuff these days and the questions reflect that.

My interests are much more in the realm of glue logic, hardware protocol conversions, FPGA acceleration, but of micro controllers not supercomputers:

some examples of recent and potential future projects:

glue 8 channel DSP to ARM Cortex M4 controller with initial DSP stuff on the FPGA (Altera MAX 10, about  5k LUTs, 16 RAM blocks used)

interface 4 audio chips all using slightly different versions of protocols on a board which talks to a protocol abusing device (they put sync pulse in wrong place) (ice40)

HF amplifier controller and pulse generator (ice 40 + ARM Cortex M0)

250 MHz 14-16 bit data acquisition and processing (Xilinx Artix or maybe Spartan 7)

64 channel 500k sample/s (total) data acquisition, (Lattice XP2 with external RAM)

Multi channel IR detector controller (ice40 + ARM Cortex M4)

Things I'd like to see, re: Xilinx products - (apart from Artix and Spartan7 in TQFP image), more about low cost, industrial temperature range applications and development from chip level (ie not based on dev boards.).
