    Hi Mr. Andy Waller

    I want to ask; from where  an electronics R&D engineer should start as a startpoint of a research about any subject?

    For example; I want to make detailed research about QPSK or any other matter for practical application besides theoretical.

    What should the course-method-technique be?

    Should I write QPSK on google and web search? Is this start point true in your opinion?

    Do you have any special research technique?

    Thanks in advance.

    Best Regards.

    Hi,

    I am designing a 18W CFL Ballast using Ballast Controller IC. My problem is that the circuit is operating normally at 230V AC but it does not operate at lower AC Voltages. I am sending the design parameters to you. Please guide me on this.

    Regards

    Biswajit Acharjee

    Hi Muhammet,

    Of course typing anything into google will normally give you a wealth of material on the subject, however it does take some time sifting through to find something of use. I find a great place to start is to read tutorials and application notes on manufacturers websites as they are written by experts on the subject with design engineers in mind rather than the academic student. Of course this makes element14 useful as a large number of manufacturers application notes and tutorials are all in one place. So I would honestly say here is a great place to start!

    I use a combination of element14 and Maxim-ic.com when learning or refreshing my knowledge on a particular subject, just because I'm always interested from the practical and design point of view rather than the purely academic view you get when say looking at Wikipedia

    Thanks

    Andy

    Hi Biswajit,

    Unfortunately I'm not an expert in Fairchild's products but I'll try and help you here. What is the rectified volatage(VDC) it's dropping out at? Is it failing to strike or cutting out because of brownouts?

    What behaviour are you seeing on pins Vb and OUT?

    Thanks

    Andy

    Dear Andy,

    I want to know how to calculate the series inductance while designing an 14W Electronic Ballast.Please guide me on this.

    Earlies I got an equation from the application note AN02110 OF Philips by H.Simons.The equation is,

                                                              L = Rl. T

                                                          where L= Series Inductance to be calculated

                                                                    Rl = Lamp resistance

                                                                    t    =T/4a  where T= L / Rl

                                                                   T= 1/f     where f=frequency   and a=T/4t

    wheather it is correct or not.Please Help.

    With Regards

    Biswajit Acharjee

    Hi Biswajit,

    Again I appologise for not being an expert in Ballasts (Maxim do not produce them) but have you looked at the more detialed equations for inductor selection in this application note? http://www.st.com/stonline/products/literature/an/14021.pdf

    Thanks

    I need a sample of a MAX4427EPA (10pcs), our supplier Farnell does not have this model in their program

    They forwarded us you as a contact.

    Please advise where to buy in the Netherlands or send straight from maxim

    Sample's can be send to the following address.

    Hi Jeroen,

    no problem at all I'll get those samples of MAX4427EPA+ sent to you straight away, however first could I have your email address so I can process the request?

    Also just to let you know as you've specified the extended temperature range device, as its a sample it may not perform to the entire range as we don't know where they've been sampled from the line

    Thanks

    Andy

    Hi Andy

    I have decided to use max1759 in my design. Now I'm looking for proper capacitors for it. In datasheet there is suggestion to use 10uF ceramic capacitors with ESR < 20mOhm. I have checked several capacitors I have got i office, with Frequency Response Analyser FRA1260 Solartron and the best capacitor I have found it was one with ~100 mOhm @1.5MHz. I have read a lot of Maxim documents, and I have found no sugestion what cap could be used. Could you help me with suggestion what manufacturer and what capacitor could I use in my design? or should I buy several different capacitors and check for their ESR?

    Regards

    Kamil
