I am trying to measure fuel gauge data

Hi

    I am trying to calibrate fuel gauge IC Max17040 . According to datasheet we have RCOMP register (address = 0x0C-0x0D) in max17040 that is a r/w register, during testing using I2C I tried to write data to that register and then read the same, but all the time I am reading the default values 9700 . I am unable to write any value in this register.

I want to clarify if this register is really a r/w register or there is any mismatch in datasheet and chip.

    "RCOMP is a 16-bit value used to compensate the

    ModelG

    auge algorithm. RCOMP can be adjusted to

    optimize performance for different lithium chemistries or

    different operating temperatures. Contact Maxim for

    instructions for optimization. The factory-default value

    for RCOMP is 9700h."
