FX18 Series, 0.8mm Pitch, 10+ Gbps High Speed board to board connectors with multi functional contacts.

The FX18 series has been introduced to meet the high demand for connectors that are suitable for high speed applications. FX18 delivers an impressive 10 Gbps of high speed transmission and supports PCI - Express Ver. 2.0. The innovative structure of the connector features advanced multi functional contacts which consist of ground contacts, power supply contacts and 3 step sequential contacts. The ground contacts provide superior enhanced grounding properties and are strategically positioned next to the differential pair contacts to reduce crosstalk. The power supply contacts offers up to 3 Amps per pin which means that the signal contacts do not have to be used for power and the pin count requirement can be reduced saving valuable space. A total of 12 Amps can be used. The 3 step sequential contacts are set back in different positions within the housing, the ground contacts make first contact followed next by the signal contacts and then the contacts for detection of the mating contacts.
The FX18 series consists of right angle receptacles and straight or right angle headers in 40, 60, 80, 100, 120 or 140 surface mount contacts. A further six through hole pins are provided to increase the PCB retention force of the connector allowing strong resistance to wrenching forces. Large mating guides are provided on the header to provide smoother and more secure user friendly mating operation. Mis-insertion is prevented with keyed guides with integral chamfers. The mounting process has been simplified with benefits such as visible solder joints, space for rework and the option of pin in hole intrusive reflow to reduce manual soldering process time.
Suitable applications are medical devices, base transmission stations, LCD TV, LCD displays and industrial controllers.
