1) The Greenhouse:
The greenhouse is a Palram Harmony 6ft x 8ft model with one door and one window vent. The vent came with a manual linkage for opening and an automatic lifter that opens with temperature changes. The vent is one of the items that needs to be controlled with the Intel Edison board.
2) Environmental Temperature Control:
The temperature of the greenhouse is currently controlled by either opening the vent for cooling, or turning on an electric portable space heater.
The space heater has some problems keeping the room at a specific temperature, so I plan to bypass its internal control and use a feedback system using the Edison board.
Sometimes just opening the vent won't cool the room down enough either, so fans or other cooling will also be required.
On the hottest days last summer, I had to put a tarp on the roof to keep the room cool.
3) Watering:
The current watering system is simple:
The house water will be piped into the greenhouse if I can find a way to keep the pipe from freezing, and a sprinkler system will be installed.
4) Security:
The current security system is a Samsung IP webcam. Door interlock and motion detection will be added.
5) Sensors:
Outdoor and Indoor Temperature and Humidity are currently being monitored using an AcuRite weather station. Soil temperature and moisture level sensors will be added.
