This caught my eye over on Reddit, it's not often I see add-on boards for the intel Edison.

Agreed, this is interesting. Just need a quality antenna to wire up so that the receptor is in line of sight. I am tempted in spite of my over-implemented home office.
This product might give Intel a shot at creating a consumer niche, admittedly small and geeky (at least) at first. Maybe some companion low-cost software products will help. The ball is in their court!
The line of sight may not be needed, Richard. I'm testing sub-1 GHz communication here in house and it beams trough walls and floors - with the PCB antenna.
shabaz has sent me a pair of high quality antennas, and I ordered an antenna test set for these frequencies, so I'll be able soon to check how they improve the communication.
But for in-house, the antenna on this explorer board will most likely do.
