Eliminar calor en la aplicación del LM2596

Hola.

 

estoy en un proyecto donde se está creando un dispositivo que va en un auto, donde lo general su carga de batería maxima es de 14v, y se requieren 5v en el dispositivo instalado, quisiera alguna opinión de como evitar o reducir el calor producido por el regulador LM2596 o alguna otra opción.

    Es mucha la diferencia de tensión y por tanto de potencia . No dice la corriente . O  empleas lo mas burdo una resistencia de potencia , o conviertes la tensión mediante conmutación .

    Le estoy dando la solución de implementar do reguladores lm2596 el primero bajara la corriente de 14 v a 9.4 v el segundo convertirá los 9.4 v a 4.18 v que es el voltaje que necesito... investigaré mas sobre la opción por conmutación, el detalle es que al parecer es mas complicado el circuito de conmutación, nunca lo he manipulado.
