pic18 free compiler

Former Member

Good morning !

I want to start working with PIC18F14K50-I/MQPIC18F14K50-I/MQ.

Can you suggest me some free C compiler for this PIC (even if there are limitations)?

Does Hitech provide such free compiler as for PIC10/12/16?

I have got PICKit3  with MPLAB: it is able to program such micro?

Thanks a lot

    Hi RGB,

You can download free PIC18 compiler from Microchip website. Please find below link for the same

    http://www.microchip.com/stellent/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&nodeId=1406&dDocName=en010014

Download the latest version of MPLAB IDE from microchip website and install the same. And follow the following steps to check whether the device supports or not with PICKIT3.

    Steps

    1) open MPLAB IDE

    2) Select Configure Device  --->> Select Device ( Select your pic18F14FK50  from drop down list)

    3) Check below in programmer. If  In front of PICKIT3 if grren color indidcates means it suppots that device.

If any futher query feel free to contact us.

    Best Regards

Hi RGB , the only limitation on our 'free' C compilers is that of optimization , in other words , the free version may not generate quite such tight code - it all depends upon what you are doing , most people think it's great . The PICKit 3 should program the 18F14K50 parts fine .

    Cheers , Mike
