internet radio demo board

   Hi from Romania, i just visit your site and got this link  http://ro.farnell.com/microchip/dm183033/demo-board-internet-radio/dp/1629964?Ntt=1629964, i want to know if you could help me with some advice on how to use this kit board to build an internet radio device. Thanks, Viorel Bercea p.s.- i am an engineer and need some technical details, thank you.

    Hi,

     

    You can find all the technical informations (description, schematic,...) about our Internet Radio here.

    Regarding SW, you can download all the source code from our free librairies which are included in this archive.

    After installation you'll find the source code of the project here : c:\Microchip Solutions v2010-08-04\TCPIP Internet Radio App\

     

    To compile the project you need :

    * MPLAB IDE (free)

    * C18 compiler (free)

    Thank for your email, i do not understand well how i use that board from the kit, as wiring is ok, but let's say that i want to listen to a specific radio station, how and where i write the specific ip for that audio stream? Is there any youtube or a video for this? I ask this because i want to put inside a regular tuner this board and have also the internet stations in listening, thanks.

    Hi,

     

    I think this board SW has been designed to connect to a shoutcast server to get radio stations. It is not connecting to youtube.

    To understand how this is done you have to analyze the internet radio SW project that I mentionned in my previous post.

     

    Regarding connection with a regular tuner, I don't think it is possible at all with this board. This board has been designed to get radio stations through internet and no provision has been made to have different audio input sources on the board.

     

    You'd need to add some multiplexing to select internet audio at the output of the MP3 decoder chip or your tuner.

    From my opinion it is necessary to do your own board and design it to accept various audio input sources.

    I see that this board has an audio output for earphone, that i could put at the one of unsed inputs of tuner ( as surce i mean, that are severals, like cd, dvd or tape...) So if this board conect to the shoutcast server how it get the desired ip, station? Regards, Viorel

    Ok. I understand better what you're trying to achieve.

    You're right. You can use the audio output (mini-jack) of the internet demoboard and connect it to your tuner system into an audio input like RCA connectors red+white using an appropriate cable.

     

    The internet demoboard has 3 keys + OLED display. The internal SW had a DHCP client. You can connect it to your ADSL router or network router.

    It will receive its IP address. Then the internal SW will display on the OLED display (128x64) some menus and submenus which you can navigate using the 3 keys.

    It allows you to select the type of music, the station, the volume etc...

    Hi thanks for your advice, so if i buy this board i can test this mini project my self, yes? And another question about the

    do you have any screenshots of this menu, or you say that connect directly to the shoutcast server ? As i know this kind of devices use different servers like vtuner.com, reciva.com...to connect to the list of radio stations that are added there, regards Viorel.

    Hi,

     

    The internet demoboard comes with the application software in it.

    It is possible to modify the software by yourself if you have some know-how in microcontroller development.

     

    If you want to make any modification to Microchip original software you'll need 3 tools :

    1/ The development environment MPLAB (FREE)

    2/ The C compiler for PIC18F67J60 called C18 (FREE)

    3/ A programmer tool for the microcontroller (Pickit2 + AC164110, Pickit3 + AC164110 or ICD3) which you need to buy

     

    Of course you need to download the libraries package (Microchip Application Libraries) as mentioned before, which contains the internet radio source project.

     

    Without modifying the internet board software you cannot have other functions than the one I described previously.

    Hi and thanks for your technical asistance, i have one more question about the quality of sound at phone output? could it be put in a kind of an amplifier and sound without any sound limitation in frequency and quality? it sounds like the streaming source? I ask that because i have test last year a device with Arm chipset or something like that, an internet radio device that use the Reciva.com server and that sounds with limitation as sound quality for example in the display it write sometimes 60 kbps, sometimes 74 kbps and the streaming source is at 48 kbps aac+ codec...Regards, Viorel

     

    p.s.- if i give to you my audio stream on aac+ codec do you could make a try with this board? it is present in the shoutcast list, just do a search on kptv, from romania.
