Pickit2 with xlp controllers

merser

I would like to try some of the newer controllers but am unsure if pickit2 will program them. After installing the latest mplab and other updates I still do not get a green light for a 16f1933 with pickit2.

I have mplab v8.63. PK2 v2.61 and device file v1.62.03

Admittedly I wan't sure where to drop the new device file. It should be possible to use Pickit2 with this processor as it is listed as supported in the supported devices list on microchip website.

Regards

    Hi,

Pickit2 (and Pickit3) do not (and will not) support all the PICs as do the little more expensive tools like ICD3 & Real-Ice which basically support all flash PICs.

This is one of the limitations of these cheaper tools.

However, if you check PIC16F1933, you could use Pickit3 which has green light for debugging/programming. This is the cheapest alternative which support this micro.

If you plan to use different PICs in the future, ICD3 is a better investment although more expensive initially.

Another way to check this is to use the Development Tool Selector link : http://www.mcrochip.com/DTS
