SST Serial & Parallel Flash Products
The Microchip range includes both Serial and Parallel NOR Flash – all are built using Microchip’s SuperFlash technology. SuperFlash was invented by Silicon Storage Technology (SST) whom Microchip acquired in 2010. SuperFlash is an innovative, highly reliable and versatile type of NOR Flash memory: it is much more flexible and reliable than competing non-volatile memories. SuperFlash notably provides very fast erase times – this may offer major advantages during the user’s production process with typical erase times of 50ms ( 64Mbit part ).
Serial NOR Flash
The SST25 family connect via SPI , the SST25WF parts operate at 1.8v whilst the SST25VF run at 3.0v , densities range from 512Kb to 64Mb.
The SST26 family connect via SQI , a 4-bit multiplexed synchronous serial communications interface that allows faster data transfer rates than SPI whilst still retaining a low pin count / small package. The SST26VF parts run at 3.0v , densities are 16Mb and 32Mb.

Parallel NOR Flash
The SST38 / SST39 families connect via an 8-bit or 16-bit dedicated bus.
The SST39 family covers densities between 512Kb to 8Mb with 1.8v , 3v and 5v options.
The SST38 family provides a 3v , 64Mb option with the following additional features , Hardware reset pin / Boot Block / Erase Suspend / Page Read/Write Buffer / Additional Security Features.
