Freescale and Bluetechnix competition

awinning

Freescale and Bluetechnix have asked me to run a competition with three Bluetechnix SBC-iMX51 boards as prizes. I've posted the main specs of the board below, and if you need more information I've also linked the datasheet. All you have to do is tell us what you'd use the board for if you won. After the event I'll include the answers in one or more polls and you can vote for the best ideas. Winners of the poll(s) get the boards

You have until May 3rd to get your entry in

SBC-I.MX51SBC-I.MX51

The Single-Board Computer SBC-I.MX51SBC-I.MX51 is based on Freescale’s high-performance i.MX51 mobile platform, incorporating

an ARM Cortex-A8 CPU, an Image Processing Unit (IPUv3EX), a Video Processing Unit (VPU) and a Graphical Processing Unit

(GPU). The IPUv3EX provides comprehensive support for connectivity to displays and cameras. The VPU supports hardware

encoding and decoding of MPEG-4, H.263, H.264 and many more standards. The GPU serves 3D and 2Dacceleration in

hardware. The board‘s memory capabilities (NAND Flash, DDR2) and numerous interfaces like Ethernet, HDMI,4xUSB

and USB-OTG turn the SBC-I.MX51SBC-I.MX51 into the ultimate development board for future high-end embedded devices.

I'd like to make a Low Cost, super small form factor Linux based Media Centre, by utilising the HDMI and Audio support on the Evaluation board and working with the 2D and 3D hardware Graphics support to produce a decent user interface.

If I win, I would like to build a virtual gate appliance using freescale SBC-I.MX51SBC-I.MX51 board.
Virtual gate is the high-end baby monitor that provides safe zone play area in a house
for babies. Parents/Care-taker can input the safe zone boundaries(single or multiple zones) with-in
the house for the virtual gate. Unsafe zone in a house could include stairs, exit doors etc.
Multiple cameras will be monitoring the room and baby movement. An alarm would trigger
when the baby crosses the safe boundary while playing. Along with the alarm, a real-time
video stream can be sent to the Parent's/care-taker's smart-phone. The usage of the appliance

can be extended to day-care centers and other play areas.

    Hi,

This is a great board, and there can be found lots of projects which are possible to creat with it. If i win, Mine may be a "Remote Sky Observation System". Since i have a telescope, this board may help accomplish my idea. Sure just this board itself is not enough for the all system i imagine, but it will complete many things i need.

Even if i will not be a winner, i really wonder the winner projects.

Good luck to all of you.

    Hey Firat,

Hope all is well. Do you want to project the image from the telescope onto an LCD screen? Sounds a nice idea. All three ideas actually sound really good to be honest,

    Ally

    Hi Ally,

Thanks, all is very well. I am just so much busy and not be able to spare some time for my projects. Hope you are well, either.

My first intention is to transfer the camera video to a PC via Ethernet, but using an LCD Screen is also possible. So, my answer is; why not ?

I have  two 4.3" TFT LCDs. I was looking projects to try them out. So, this may be a good one. Let's see.

    Best regards,

    Firat Kocak

I'm very busy also. I think you probably are right, the PC screen is probably much better to show the heavens than a smaller screen!

Oooh! Not that of quality image  It will be a video system, not long exposure photography....

But, for all that, i would really like to take such kind of pictures of the deep sky. Who knows, maybe one day ...
