Help with implementing a Z80 PIO into my homebrew computer!

I am currently following this tutorial: http://lateblt.tripod.com/z80proj1.htm

I have everything set up except the 6522, which I thought would be easy to replace with a Z80 PIO. I am sort of a newb to this stuff, so any help would be awesome! Thanks!
