MCU support SATA III (6GB/s)

I need MCU which support SATA III. Do you have any MCU which is satisfied my requirement?

I saw that i.MX6 series can support SATA II (I used i.MX535 before but it just have SATA I).

If you don't have any SATA III MCU, could you please tell us your development plan for SATA III MCU?

Can you provide this MCU within this year? FYI, I need about 600 MCU per year.

Thank you very much.

Hi Phuc, I did a quick look around and couldn't find any MCU's that mentioned supporting SATA III. Since we are not a manufacture and you mentioned the i.MX6 family I am going to move this conversation…

i.MX6 multimedia processor family only support SATA2 (3Gb/s)

Freescale has announced end of last year the extension of its existing QorIQ telecom processor family with new Layerscape which will be based on ARM Cortex-A7 (LS1_A7) or ARM Cortex-A15 (LS1_A15) cores.

    Those LS1 should embeds following new peripherals : USB3.0 with PHY, SATA3 (6Gb/s), min 3x Ethernet Gigabit, PCIe2.0 ...

Evaluation boards and samples should be available end of 2013, may be early 2014 and full-production should start minimum 6 months later

    Hi Greg C,

Thank you very much. I'm looking for QorIQ manual now.

It sounds great with SATA3 integrated in that chip.

    Phu

Keep in mind that Layerscape LS1 products embedding the SATA3 controller might be in production late 2014

If your application is more oriented Communication Interfaces (multiple SATA2.0, Gb ethernet, PCIe, USB2.0) than Multimedia (Px familly has no LCD controller), I would definitly recommend you to consider the QorIQ family Px starting with the P101x family based on a Single Core e500 @533MHz (lowest derivative P1014NSN5DFA down to 20$ for 1Kpcs/year) up to the P5040 family based on a Quad Core e5500 @2.4GHz.

QorIQ Px families are based on a proprietary core recognized for its performances and its energy efficiency in the telecom market.

To evaluate QorIQ Px entry and middle-end families, the tower system board TWR-P1025TWR-P1025 is the right tool offering plenty of connectors at a resonnable price.

Direct link to TWR-P1025TWR-P1025 product page on Freescale website HERE

    Hi Greg C,

Thank you. My design is for handheld machine, so I think QorIQ maybe better than x86 mini-ITX.

But I need LCD controller (don't need HDMI) for user interface (user may control by a touchscreen), so Px family may not suitable but i.MX6. I hope the next generation of i.MX6 or QorIQ will support SATA III and LCD controller also.

While waiting for SATA III product, I must use i.MX6. Hope to see SATA III MCU from Freescale soon so that I can replace i.MX6 by the new one.
