A hybrid vehicle combines a downsized internal combustion engine (ICE) and an electric motor (e-motor) to improve fuel economy and reduce harmful emissions. Mild hybrid, full hybrid and plug-in hybrid are a common way to refer to the power breakdown capability of the electric motor and functionalities associated to it. For example, the torque of the electric motor in mild hybrid may assist the thermal engine at low speed, minimizing fuel consumption while the brakes regenerate the mechanical energy to electricity.
Freescale’s MCU portfolio includes motor control solutions with an available low-level software library. We are continually developing new products with dedicated peripheral sets for the electric architectures used in hybrid vehicles.
