Overview

 

Freescale’s 8-bit S08P microcontroller (MCU) family gives your designs more durability and reliability in both harsh industrial and user interface environments while meeting appliance safety standard IEC60730. The S08P family is simple, yet powerful, and offers exceptional EFT/ESD performance. This scalable and pin-compatible MCU family reuses the existing S08 core, IP and tools for easy migration from existing 8-bit S08 products. Furthermore, S08P MCUs integrate key features, including a touch-sensing interface (TSI), EEPROM and motor control FlexTimer to simplify designs and help reduce system costs.

 

The scalable S08P family provides a wide range of feature/price options for product differentiation. Choose between the full-featured TSI (touch sensing interface) -enabled PT class, the equally full-featured PA class without TSI or the basic PL class for cost-sensitive applications.

 

The S08P family of MCUs includes drive strength control for EMI/EMC compliance, as well as filtering on I/O pins to help withstand noisy environments. Internal clock generators keep clock noise inside, while an independent hardware watchdog monitors the system. This family of MCUs also includes a built-in 16-bit CRC (programmable cyclic redundancy check module) engine for data validation. Integrated peripherals simplify PCB design, and combined with a broad portfolio of device options, result in reduced BOM costs.

 

In addition, the S08P family is supported by Freescale’s cost-effective Tower System development platform.

  • S08PT/PA/PL Family provides a wide range of feature/price options for product differentiation.  Choose between full-featured + TSI (touch sensing interface) -enabled PT class, the full featured PA or basic PL class for cost sensitive applications. 
  • Scalable Flash memory ranging from 2KB-60KB offers easy migration. 
  • Choice of package options that range from 8-pin to 64-pin allowing space and product feature set flexibility.  
  • Develop your design using Tower System development platform, supported by complimentary CodeWarrior Development Studio, including the Processor Expert code initialization tool.

  • Upgraded memory:
    • Capacitive touch sensing detection hardware with high sensitivity and enhanced robustness, fully supported by Freescale touch sensing software library of buttons, keyboards, sliders, and rotaries 
    • A high accuracy internal clock 
    • 16-ch. 12-bit SAR ADC enables fast and accurate analog measurement 
    • Pulse Width Modulator (PWM) ideal for motor control and power applications 
    • On-chip real time counter  simplifies task-scheduling
    • Increased Flash/RAM ratio (4KB RAM in PT/PA60) allows easy C-coding

  On-chip EEPROM for simpler  system design for data logging and recording
