It’s safe to say that we all have fond memories of the ubiquitous Nerf gun. The low tech toy has been the inspiration for parents around the world to plead with their children to “take it outside.” Last week Freescale attended MakerFaire Rome and unveiled a decidedly high-tech version of the beloved toy that would catapult it to the top of any maker’s Christmas wish list.
The souped-up Nerf gun, dubbed Nerfinator, is powered by the Freescale FRDM-K64F dev board and showcases the wide array of sensor uses. Nerfinator harnesses the power of the 6-axis digital accelerometer and magnetometer in FRDM-K64F for impressive remote controlled aim and fire capabilities. Although Nerfinator is not available in stores (yet?), you can read more about the Freescale team’s process and shopping list on the Freescale community. In the unlikely event that your Nerf envy hasn’t already spiked they’ve got a video of the Nerfinator in action to send you over the top.
The hacked Nerfinator makes winning your own Nerf war a foregone conclusion, provided you can find enough “ammo” and convince your parents to let you keep waging battle at home.
