Forgive my ignorance, but I ultimately found my way here after watching the Ben Heck Show and learning about Element 14. I have little experience with electronics but hope to learn by immersion in discussions…

    Hi Max.

I heard that all Panasonic chip resistors have flexible terminal technology, could you tell me a little more about this? it would make them ideal for automotive applications.

    Regards

    Andy

    Dear Andy,

Panasonic SMD Resistor use Soft Termination structure in order to provide solution against Temperature Cycle conditions at customers application (mainly automotive).

Due to ROHS (Pb free soldering) especially in automotive application (where you have sometimes high, sometimes low temperature), Solder joint crackings happen in the solder fillet.

Panasonic Soft termination structure help to minimize those crackings and absorb the stress, applied to the solder fillet by temperature cycling environment! Regards

    Max

I am delighted to see that Farnell have decided to extend your range of Panasonic Resistors. I have been using your new SMD technology fantastic spec

    Max,

I am doing a worst case analysis that has Panasonic thick film 1% resistors (100ppm).  I need to come up with a worst case value of resistors assuming -40DegC to 100DegC operating temperatures.   We are assuming about 2.8% which will include temp, end of life, soldering, vibration, temperature cycling, and any other condition that may change the parts.  Is that a good assumption or do you have a better number that we can use?   Also, statistically, what is the spread of tolerance for a 1% resistor?  Can we assume about 0.5% for the 6 sigma for the nominal analysis?

    Thank you.

I need assistance in selecting the correct resistor to correct the output of a transformer. I have a 24v Singnal Transformer (CL2-25-24)(24V@1.05A). This transformer is powering a remote control receiver. The actual output of the transformer is 29.6V. The receiver has an input power range of 11-28V. I would like to limit the output power of the transformer to approx 27V. I have tried several resistors ranging from 3W-10W, 100 Ohm-250Ohm with no success. Please, what would you suggest?

I need to know how to determine the wattage of a resistor by looking at it's size.  Can you help me with this?

    It depends on technology

Even same case size might have different wattage due to different heat dispersion structure, different material

I have a zener diode (not sure it was manufactured by Panasonic) with colour band on the lead and on the body as per below:

    Lead - red

Body (nearest to the lead with red band) - brown

    Body - blue

Is there anyway to tell what is the part number based on these colours bands?
