Today we are pleased to announce the BD14000EV-C, a self-contained cell balancer IC that utilizes a shunt-type supercap balancing method to support 4 to 6 cells. All functions required for supercap balancing are integrated into a single chip (an industry first), simplifying the design of supercap modules.

BD14000EFV-C Supercap Cell Balancer IC Features

1) Compact form factor contributes to greater miniaturization

Over 20 discrete components conventionally required for supercap (EDLC) cell balancing functionality are integrated into a single chip, significantly reducing mounting area.

2. Easy scalability supports high voltage applications

The cell balancing voltage can be set to between 2.4V to 3.1V (in 0.1V steps), ensuring compatibility with a variety of supercaps. And multiple cell balancer ICs can be connected in series to support higher voltage applications utilizing several high capacitance supercaps.

3. Built-in safety functions provide worry-free operation

In addition to cell balancing operation, integrated overvoltage detection and flag output functions make it possible to detect cell degradation and improve system reliability. The IC is also qualified under the AEC-Q100 international automotive quality standard for use in applications demanding extreme reliability.
