Inverter circuits are widely used for motor drive in home electronics such as ACs and refrigerators, but with the trend in recent years towards greater energy savings super junction MOSFETs that provide lower ON resistance while maintaining the withstand voltage in the switching elements of inverter circuits.

<PrestoMOSTm Series of SJ MOSFETs>

‘Presto’ used in ROHM’s PrestoMOSTm series of power MOSFETs is an Italian musical term meaning ‘very fast’.

 

PrestoMOSTm is an SJ MOSFET that integrates a high-speed diode. Features include the following.

(Feature 1)

The industry’s fastest reverse recovery time

(Feature 2)

Lower conduction loss at light loads vs IGBTs

(Feature 3)

Low regenerative loss contributes to higher application efficiency with lower loss compared with fast recovery diodes

 

ROHM began producing the PrestoMOSTm series in 2012, and has recently commercialized the 3rd generation lineup that provides greater design freedom.

 

<R60xxJNx Series 3rd Generation PrestoMOSTm Features>

(Feature 1)

Reduces unintended gate voltage during switching by 20%. Also, increasing the threshold voltage by 1.5x reduces the likelihood of self turn-ON, expanding the loss adjustment range (i.e. via gate resistance).

(Feature 2)

Improves hard recovery characteristics and reduces the risk of noise-induced malfunctions while maintaining fast reverse recovery time.
