QFN, MEMS Chips, & Breakout boards

Hi folks,

I'm interested in prototyping with some the MEMS accelerometers however they come in the LGA form-factor. I have no experience with this type of packaging and I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of where to find some cheap breakout boards.

I think I'm missing something basic as I can't seem to easily find board to quickly mount one of these chips and use it in a solder-less breadboard. Maybe I'm just getting to old for good old hands-on experimentation.

I ultimately want to hook this chip up to an lpcexporesso micro-controller for reading the sensed data.

I havent seen any breakout boards for ST's mems chips but DangerousPrototypes has an open source breakout board for Freescale's MMA7455L that you can buy fully asembled for $15

Thank you for the reference.

In general can someone tell me how this issue dealt with? I'm sure the professionals in the industry will have a need to build a prototype prior to fabing a million of the proposed product. Is the standard way of building prototypes these days to have a board fabricated? I may be dating myself now but when I was in school we used breadboards to piece things together.

Am I really a dinasaur now?

Hello... Just a follow up. I did find a set of protoboards offered by the MEM manufactuer. They were a tad expensive ~$50 - $80. So looks like dangerousprototypes looks like the ticket!

Me my eyes are real old so I don't mess about with this surface mount stuff. I still wire wrap..
so to help out here are the boys that I deal with http://www.proto-advantage.com they up in Canada
and im here in Fort Worth, Texas so I send them my part and they send it back mounted on a dip adapter.
