Why You Should Choose SV Microwave to Buy RF Cable Assemblies Over Amazon?

Amazon Vs SV Microwave

We noticed that one vendor from Amazon is selling the same product as what SV is offering at a very lower price than SV Microwave. Our team has decided to test both products on some occasions. The product is SMA Male to Male Cable Assembly price at Amazon is $10 and the price at SV Microwave is $84. We have categorized the whole part into four sections.

  • Ordering Process
  • Initial Inspection
  • Quality Inspection
  • Electrical Performance

Ordering Process

Amazon: It asked only a very small number of information and we got the product delivered in 2 days.
SV Microwave: We have our own custom cable builder, where you can choose the cable assembly data as per your requirements like cable type, connector type and cable length. SV can take a large number of quality orders. Our lead time is 10 business days.

Initial Inspection

Amazon: The product doesn't have a product specification datasheet and the country of origin. Very minimal number of information about the product material and expected performance.
SV Microwave: All of our RF cable assemblies comes with Datasheet which is automatically generated from the system and includes material data, performance data and some valid data points with impedance, frequency range, expected VSWR and Insertion Loss.

Quality Inspection

We have submitted both RF cable assemblies to the quality inspection team.
Amazon: Due to the lack of information this product would not pass the quality inspection. As we mentioned earlier the product was delivered without the much-needed information.

  • Bill of Materials (Not including what material is used in the cable assembly)
  • Country of Origin
  • Environmental Compliance Certifications

SV Microwave: We include all the details about the product shelf-life, performance specs and all appropriate certifications. No matter if you ordered from vendors without data points is cause for automatic exclusion.

Note: The quality inspection team noticed that Amazon’s product was delivered with FOD on the insulator. FOD stands for Foreign Object Debris which impacts the reliability and electrical performance of the connector.

Electrical Performance

The most notable difference between Amazon's RF cable assembly and SV’s RF cable assembly is electrical performance testing. We have tested both cable assemblies for VSWR and Insertion Loss. At low-frequency range, the cable assemblies are performing well. While increasing the frequency range to high the Amazon cable assembly starts to fall dramatically. The SV’s cable assembly with the same.
The Amazon cable assembly is only able to perform under lower frequencies like 6 GHz. When it comes to high-frequency applications SV is the ideal one.
Check out the inspection with detailed graphs at SV Microwave.

It is because Amazon stuffs are almost made in China and made with low quality parts or fake parts.  They are just for amateur, leisure, fun and not for any serious purpose.

I also buy cheap stuffs on Amason to test my ideas and then throw them away.  Grin

    Hi,

I have some feedback regarding the cable builder (bearing in mind I'm not the target audience, since these cables are priced for military and R&D labs etc):

    * Didn't like that the cable thicknesses were in inches only, so I had to get the calculator. 90% of the world prefers metric, could both be added? 0.085" and 0.087" doesn't mean much to me.

    * In the screenshot below, it's confusing where it states 'RP'. I understand that's reference plane, but it is very easy to mistake that with 'SMA-RP' and I needed to go back to double-check I had not accidentally clicked on that weird SMA variety. Maybe better to simply replace the text 'RP' with 'Ref Plane'.

    * Couldn't see any options for semi-rigid and rigid.

    * There should be an option to label the cables at both ends with specific text.

    * Surprised the heatshrink doesn't have any options. Isn't adhesive heatshrink preferred? It's stiffer, somewhat watertight, and maybe better strain relief.
