AMPSEAL Waterproof connectors

Product Facts

  • Silicon gasket comes bonded to header assembly for an easy, secure, watertight seal
  • Two-way sealing of interface and wires withstands harsh, wet conditions
  • Up to 17 amperes per contact
  • Four keyed and color-coded styles guarantee success when mating connectors
  • Plug connector two-piece contact holding design ensures positive seating without backout

Description

AMPSEAL connectors just got better. Known for their rugged reliability even under high-temperature automotive and industrial applications, they are now a snap to assemble. We have replaced the difficult-to-apply, labor-intensive gasket by bonding it to the header assembly. This product upgrade also eliminates purchasing and inventorying an extra part--the gasket. Or, if you prefer, we also offer the header with a separate gasket.

Not just waterproof, submersible too
Superior environmental sealing makes these heavy-duty connectors not only waterproof, but submersible as well. Intended for a wire-to-board system, the connectors are available in cable plugs and pc board-mounting headers, which are designed to be flange mounted.

Lock-in-place design
The ready-to-use plug connector features a housing with a two-piece contact-holding design. This lock-in-place design provides terminal-position assurance against contact backout. After contacts are inserted into the housing, the housing snaps shut to firmly position all contacts. As added insurance against slippage, the connector will not shut unless all contacts are properly inserted.

The lanceless receptacle contacts eliminate tangling during storage and handling and prevent damage to seals during assembly. They accept 20 to 16 AWG wire with a 1.7 to 2.7 mm diameter thin-wall insulation.

Powerful applications
They also fit the bill for strong power applications. These AMPSEAL connectors pack a current of 17 amperes for gold-plated contacts and 8 amperes for tin-plated ones. Made of materials designed to withstand an underhood environment, the gold-plated contact can tolerate temperatures up to 125°C and tin-plated contacts, 105°C.

The connectors use a three-row contact grid on 4 mm centerlines in a 23-position configuration; plastic seal plug can be used to plug empty contact cavities in applications requiring selective loading.

Keyed and Color-Coded
When your I/O requirements call for more than one connector, the 23-position AMPSEAL connector is keyed and color coded for easy assembly. Available in black, natural (white), blue, and gray, a black plug cannot be plugged into a natural, blue, or gray header assembly, and likewise for the other combinations. The keying prevents incorrectly mating the header and plug, and the color provides a visual aid to correctly mate the connectors.

Easy assembly
AMPSEAL automotive connectors are designed for cost-effective, high-productivity assembly. Contacts are available loose piece or in strip form for fast termination by AMP semiautomatic or high-speed automatic equipment.

Integral latch firmly holds mated connector halves together without the need for additional hardware. The solderable retention legs, or hold downs, keep the header assembly firmly attached to the board before soldering and mechanically fastened to the board after soldering.
