Please let us know your thoughts in regards to open frame power supplies and no-load power draw and higher efficiencies. We will use this information in helping to prioritize our new product road map and so we are very interested in the views of our customers.

Consumer Electronics such as AV use or IT use, request the power supplies meet the criterion of Energy star or COC(Code of Conduct on Energy Efficiency of External Power Supplies). Our customer need the product which can meet the criterion.

    Jason,

CofC is geared to External Power supplies only in this manner. Energy Star has many different categories, including one for External Power supplies, and so it's relevant, but a little difficult to relate to open frame supplies in general.

Also, most of these standards are geared to consumer level products designed for use in a residence.

What our question is really shooting to address is the issue for more OEM types of commercial or industrial or medical types of products that use open frame internal power supplies. We are curious as to how many engineers put value on having a very efficient and low no-load power draw for an open frame supply.

    Thanks,

    Kent Smith

    Dear Kent:

I have asked many enginners from customer and power IC manufacturer's FAEs, they told to me the most important feature of industrial power supplies is stably and long life, the efficiency is not they first take into account, but they try the best to improve it.
