How to renumber component in Fritzing

How do I renumber a series of components so the identifiers are sequential?

In the final review process of designing a PCB I removed components that were not required. Now the component numbering that started as J1, J2, J3, J4....... is now J1.J3.J4......

Is it possible to have Fritzing renumber the components so they are sequential once? I can do it manually but given the number of components, the task is daunting and no doubt prone to errors. Is there a way to accomplish this task automatically?

    I suspect this is what you're going to have to do.

    Maybe if you can find software for your operating system that records your actions and is able to repeat them, but otherwise I suspect not.

    Fritzing kinda stopped being developed in maybe 2018/2019, and then was picked back up and asked to be paid for, and attempted to be made more professional, I suspect this is something you could ask on their github as an issue to see if you can get a more direct answer or discover if it's not yet a feature in the software.

    But then I only have limited experience with the software, and I could be wrong.
